How to fix Red Eye in Photoshop

That's a lovely photo, but what's with those glowing red eyes? Well, they're reflections from the camera flash lens when the picture was taken. Fortunately, these can be corrected using Photoshop after the photo has been scanned into your computer.

First, open the image in Photoshop. Then Duplicate it to preserve the original.

Next, zoom in on the red eyes. Then use the Eyedropper to pick up a colour from the iris of the eye. This should be a fairly gray tint with a hint of the eye color.

Then, set your Paintbrush option to Color with Opacity at 100%, and select a Brush Size to suit the task.

Now paint over the red eye area and you will see the red turn into the tint of the iris.

Another option is to use the Quick Mask method to select the red eye area by painting it over with the Paint Brush. Then Exit Quick Mask and save the resulting Selection.

Now you can use the Fill option to fill the selected area with the iris colour that you picked up with the Eyedropper Tool.

For small images where the facial features are too small to pick up the surrounding iris colour, you can select the red eye area as before, then decrease the Saturation until the red eye is gone by going to Image > Adjust > Hue/Saturation.

There! The picture is perfect again!!
